Artist's Comments

Though this is looks like a shot taken at sunrise/set, it isn't strictly so.

Though the sun was on its way to rising, the primary light source in this image is actually coming from an industrial power station.

It was causing the sky to glow ferociously during the night, and whilst on my way to shoot another location, I stopped and bagged this, as I was struck by how much it looked like a 'false dawn'.

Gorgeous! Unless you told me, I would never have guessed it wasn't a real sunrise!

this is an awesome shot, was the grass that green or did you color boost it?

I did give the grass a little tweak to bring it up to how it appears here, yes.

The shot didn't really need any ND grad applications, so I just shot it in the knowledge that it would be easy to bring it back up to the required level in post. :)

If we go green a bit, this is really wonderful example of light pollution.

Light pollution is excess or obtrusive light created by humans. Among other effects, it disrupts ecosystems, can cause adverse health effects, obscures stars to city dwellers, interferes with astronomical observatories, and wastes energy.*

But the photography is still beautiful.

Thank you. :)

Light pollution is indeed the enemy (though I've seen it used very well in photos). My brother does astronomy for a hobby, and it's a constant annoyance of his that the skies can be blocked out by intrusive street lighting.

Once you've stood in a dark field and experienced a clear night in the wilderness, you begin to realise the spectacle that we're denying ourselves.
