Artist's Comments

I'm having fun at the moment shooting unconventional compositions. This was taken at the foot of Our Dynamic Earth, Edinburgh. :)

I really like the range of gray in this one.
I'm just in the middle of a first roll of b/w film in my life (but 135 format, not like the beauty you're using), and I'm trying to use the frames wisely :D Can't wait to see the results, but I don't want to shoot just about anything. It's hard coming from digital where you instantly see what you've done, but I feel that it can be much more rewarding in the end.

Do you maybe have a version without the sky in the shot? I think that it could yield with a pleasing abstract composition.

Have you ever wondered when playing tag is finished? Not when the school bell rings. At least not for the one who was tagged last.
You've all graduated and moved out. I'm still it.

Thanks kindly. :)

At this point it might be worth noting that the results you get back might look a little 'flat'. Setting aside different film types for a moment, if you don't shoot with a coloured filter over the lens (such as a red filter for eg), then the ight get your prints back and think they look a little dull. Remember not to get down about this, as if you have the means of scanning or printing your own work in a darkroom, you can remedy these situations. A 'flat' neg. can be a good framework to start with.

As for a shot without the sky, I don't think I do have one, though I can point you towards a digital shot I took of the same staircase that doesn't have the sky in it: [link]

I remeber that shot, you really used the shadows well.

I will probably scan the negatives myself, I hope that will help. Btw. I don't have any coloured filters - what about a polarizer?

Yes, a polariser will help do increase the sontrast and darken skies, etc. :)
