Saying Thank You is the Hardest Thing + Thumbs

Journal Entry: Thu Apr 10, 2008, 8:07 AM

Hey folks,

I hope you are well. :)

A smaller feature of thumbs than I usually do (I'm sure some may be breathing a sigh of relief ;)) as I'm pushed for time at the moment. Thought I'd do my best to stoke the fires of community spirit that time allowed for.

What I'm referring to in the main title is the (currently) infuriating process of trying to thank people on their front pages. Without wishing to sound arrogant, I've been getting a lot of :+fav:'s recently (and at this point I'd like to insert a big thank you to those who've featured my work in journals or news pieces - much appreciated. :ahoy: ) and as I've been busy, they've been piling up in my message centre. I try and get back to everyone if I can to thank them for adding one of my pieces to their :+fav:'s or to a collection that they have - it seems only right and fair. To save time, I usually use a cut and paste method as finding 100+ ways of saying thank you is difficult. ;)

However, this has been incredibly difficult recently as I'm constantly being confronted by that fucking 500 Internal Error, due to the system thinking my posting is the action of a spambot. It can sometimes take up to 10 minutes before I can post again and then after a few posts, I'm back into the 500 territory.

I understand DA's need to have measures against spambots, but I'm not the first person who has said something on here recently about the irritation caused by this feature of DA. It seems to have gotten worse recently, and I can only presume that it's functionality has been upped somewhat.

So, it's with a heavy heart that I might have to curtail thanking people as I would like to, perhaps by putting a message at the bottom of each new deviation thanking people in advance. I don't want to do this for the reason I mentioned above, plus visiting people's pages who are unknown to me is a good way of discovering artists whose work admire, from all disciplines, not just photography.

Anyway, bitching over and done with. I hope you've had a good week and enjoy the thumbs. :)

Peace, Love & Happiness,
Michael. :peace:

Great features! I don't think saying thank you for each fav is that big of a deal, I always forget who's I've faved anyways. ;) I imagine everyone is grateful, I wouldn't expect them to all write it on my page. :)

Great artist that you are listening to, btw. :)

great set of thumbs
and I'm with you on the thanking thing; it annoys me to no end, and people keep telling me to let it go, but I CAN'T! :shakefist:
I WANT to thank people personally (for the exact same reasons you mentioned), and I WANT to send out notices to all the artists I feature in my journal, but dA has made it impossible for me to do so.
I HATE having to delete my message center, but that's the only way I can keep up now... :sniff:
this new system is now even controlling what I submit to dA; like if I post something that does really well (usually a straight up shot of a flower with limited editing and no textures), I have to lay low for a few days and not submit anything (even though I have tons of stuff to upload), because my message center gets jammed with messages that are taking me forever to respond to. and when I do submit something new, it has to be something that will be less popular, lika a Holga shot or a Pola.
I feel that we, as paying customers (which is what we are right?) are getting pooped on.
the spam problem was nowhere near as annoying as this is... not even close! :rage:

Don't be ashamed just because you don't thank each and every fav you get. I gave it up long ago, as it's taking up too much time, is quite useless and meaningless too.

I know it's not the end of the world, I just see it as a matter of principle, I suppose.
